I was in the city, at a hotel’s restaurant, by myself. Seven young people came in and sat down. And every one of them took out their phone and communicated with whatever was on the screen. No conversation between them, and no eye contact until their meals were served, when they did put down their phones.

So sad how often I see this. Recently I went out to dinner with some ex-colleagues of mine and as soon as we sat down each one put her phone on the table so they could see (and presumably respond) to any call or message that came in. Seems like this has somehow become acceptable social etiquette. I must be getting old…..
