Melt in your mouth

30 10 2008

For a long time now, my American friend Char has sung the praises of Krispy Kreme Donuts, but whenever I’ve been in the US recently, there hasn’t been a KK that was easily accessible. I’m not a big fan of doughnuts anyway, so have never gone out of my way to hunt them out. Kirsty, from Brisbane, has also sung their praises, so with their recommendations ringing in my ears, I was chuffed to find a Krispy Kreme shop close to the hotel. I even went across the road to get one! And OMG. They are delicious. So light and melt-in-the-mouth! The server recommended I start with the Original as I’d never had them before, but having now had that one, I’d be keen to try vanilla, cinnamon, and others!

So Char and Kirsty – thank you for recommending them to me. I’ve changed the way I think about doughnuts as a result of that one light and fluffy experience late this afternoon. Man, they’re good!

Gee, now I want to wander down to Edward St at lunch time for a snack …
I have LOVED glazed donuts (still love good ol’ hot cinnamon cake ones, tho!) since my first trip to the US in 96. They weren’t from Krispy Kreme, but it was the start of a lovely friendship. šŸ™‚
There’s a 24-hr drive-through Krispy Kreme near where I stay when in Denver … luckily it’s not too close to smell it from the hotel, otherwise I’d be needing super-stretchy pants every trip!

You are such a naughty enabler, Rhonda. It’s all your fault that I went to Krispy Kreme at lunch time and couldn’t decide what I wanted and walked out with an assorted dozen. Sigh. Better plan a few sessions at the gym next week.
Some of my other favourite flavours (in Aus):
* Choc iced Custard filled (Bavarian custard in the US, IIRC)
* Choc iced
* Prefer raspberry filled, but strawberry is OK in a pinch
Actually, I guess that’s about it, based on what I saw in Brisbane today. There were Halloween themed choc-iced sprinkle ones, but that’s no so super intersesting.
In the US, they also have “kreme” ones, with a mock-cream style filling. I don’t mind them, but you do need to be a huge sweet tooth to handle them.

I’m surprised that you liked them so much because they are so sweet! But they are so good šŸ™‚

Glad you finally got a chance to try one!
